In the category of classic commemorative coins is the 1936 commemorative Battle of Gettysburg Half Dollar. This coin is a must have for the collector who has a passion for collecting any coins related to the Civil War. The coin was printed to honor all of the soldiers who gave their lives in the Civil War. It was also printed to celebrate the Battle of Gettysburg. This battle was significant because after the Union soldiers had one it they sealed the fate of the war to be in favor of the North.
On the obverse of this coin is the head of a member of each the Confederate Army and the Union Army. On the reverse are both the Union flag and the Confederate flag.
Coins to Collect for Their Value
For those looking to collect commemorative coins for sentimental value the Panama Pacific Exposition commemorative coin is one of the now classic commemoratives increasing in value. These coins were made in 1915 to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. The coins were only minted in the San Francisco Mint and sold for a dollar each during the celebration of the canal opening.
The coin features a design representing Columbia with the Gold Gate of San Francisco ion the background on the obverse. One the obverse of the coin also features a head which represents a Panama Canal laborer and an eagle. The reverse of coin has two dolphins. This is the only commemorative coin to feature the words “In God We Trust”.
Coins with Sentimental Value
The Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollar is one of the modern commemorative coins. Production of these coins began in 2010. The coin was approved for production by the United Staste’s government as a way to honor the 100 year anniversary of the Boy Scouts. The surcharge collected for the sale of these coins has been approved for the used of the BSA National Foundation to increase their efforts to reach and serve those in underserved communities across the country.
This coin is an ideal collector’s item for anyone who is or had been associated with the Boy Scouts of America. The obverse of the coin features a man, a boy, and a woman all doing the Boy Scout salute. The words “Continuing the Journey” and “In God We Trust” are also printed on the obverse. On the reverse of this coin is the official Boy Scouts symbol. The words “United States of America”, “Boy Scouts of America, and “Be Prepared” are all also printed on the reverse of this coin.
