Guide to Finding Niche Rare Coin Dealers

Coin collecting is a hobby which has been popular ever since the United States was first founded. There are many kinds of rare coins which are available for trade or purchase. These different kinds of coins are best sold by those who know how to sell them. While there are experts which specialize in numismatics in general, there are others which specialize in particular kinds of coins. This includes rare coin dealers which specialize in American coins, Canadian coins, foreign coins and even particular kinds of coins. They know the history of the coins as well as the lineage of different coins which come from one mint year.

If you are looking to buy a specific coin for your collection, it is a good idea to find rare coin dealers which specialize in the kinds of coins that you are looking to buy. This will help you to be able to get the coins which will be perfect for your collection. You will also have a better chance that you will get a coin which will be the genuine article. To find these kinds of dealers you can seek them out at coin shows, online and at their coin shops.

Finding a Dealer at a Coin Show

Organizations like American Numismatic Association (ANA) put on different coin shows every year. These shows attract people of all kinds of backgrounds. It is the one single biggest gathering of rare coin dealers you will find under one roof. While some simply want to show off their coin collection, others are looking to buy and sell coins on the spot. This is a great location to buy coins because you will have a better chance that they will not have the gall to sell you something which is fake or over graded.

Finding a Dealer Online

There are a lot of rare coin dealers you can find online. A word of caution here: even if you can find the dealer online, it is best not to buy a coin unless you can first see it in person. This is important because you can end up paying a lot of money for one coin only to find out that it is not worth nearly what it was quoted as being worth. Many have been scammed through sites like eBay in just this manner.

Finding a Dealer at Their Shop

A very common place to find rare coin dealers is at the various coin shops right your own city. Even if the shop itself sells all kinds of coins, you have a good chance of finding a niche dealer who specializes in particular kinds of coins. Simply talk to them about the coins you are looking for and feel out where their expertise might lie. If you do not find the expert you are looking for, simply go to the next shop. If nothing else, this is a great way for a numismatist to spend a day.
