One of the most sought after coins which collectors are looking for these days is the Morgan silver dollar coin. This is a highly collectible coin for a few different reasons. One of the biggest reasons why it is so valuable is because of the fact that it is made out of silver in the first place. Even if the coin is in terrible condition, it is still worth the value of the weight of the silver. This amount will fluctuate, but it will always be worth more than just $1.
The other reason why the Morgan silver dollar coin is so valuable is because people could not wait to be rid of the heavy coin. Keep in mind that the majority of people in the day had to carry their money with them from place to place and nothing was worse than having to carry a large sack of silver dollars to purchase items with. When the paper currency was made available for the one dollar denomination, people were anxious to get rid of the clunky coins which had been such a burden to this point. If you collect these coins, here are a few things you should know about them.
Mint Condition Morgan Coins Are Extremely Rare
When you are looking to buy a Morgan silver dollar coin that is in mint condition, be careful. This is because it is near impossible to find one in this condition. This is because the majority of people were not looking to save these coins. As soon as they were minted, they were put into circulation and they circulated heavily. The majority of coins you will find will be scratched and worn from heavy trading. If you find a coin with no markings, approach it with caution.
Look for Third Party Grading
A great way to make sure that you are buying a Morgan silver dollar coin with actual value is to buy one which has been graded by third party grading services. These services in America most often use the Sheldon Grading Scale. It is possible to find grades which are based on a European Adjective Grading Scale, but these are not as commonly used in the coin collectors’ circles. This is because the numbers which are used in the Sheldon grading scale are more recognizable and more accurate to the quality of the coin.
Look for Good Containers
Most often when you are purchasing a graded coin, it will be contained within a plastic sheet. It is important that you make sure that the plastic being used does not include PVC. This is because of the effect that it has on the quality of the coin. The last thing that you want is to purchase a Morgan silver dollar coin only to find that it is being damaged by the very container that is supposed to be protecting it from being damaged. The bets graders will know better than to use these containers.

There are plenty of different types of coin dealers out there, as each coin collector shop features a different dealer as an owner. While some are easier to work with than others, all are looking to make a living by turning a profit on these different coins. If you are serious about coin collecting, you need to work to better understand how these coin collectors operate and how to get what you want from them.
Studying different coin dealers will help you to better understand how to get what you want. These different tips are going to help you to know what to look for and will help you to work to find the coins that you need for your collection.
Be Friendly
If you want to get something from coin dealers you need to approach them in a respectful way. Make small talk and truly work to get to know the coin dealer. The friendlier you are, the more likely they are to help you to get what you want.
With that being said, do not be fake. Talk to the owner and coin dealer a few times before you start to try to work them down on prices. Make a purchase or two at full price before you start to negotiate. This can help to set up a respectful relationship that will benefit you in the future.
Be Knowledgeable
Coin dealers know what they are talking about. They live in the coin world and know exactly what these coins are and how much money they should go for. You need to try to match their level of knowledge. This will help to impress them and will help to foster a relationship while helping to show how serious you are about your hobby. The more serious you come across, the more likely they are to help you out.
Be Firm
When you do start to negotiate with the different coin dealers that you are working with, be firm. If you are working on negotiating the price of a coin down and they will not go as low as you want, turn the purchase down. When they see that you have turned down a purchase, they know that they must lower their prices to make a sale with you. The next time that you attempt to purchase a coin, they may be willing to go down further because they know that you will turn down a price if it is unfair.
If you have a coin collection or are finally starting to get into coin collecting, you need to understand how to get ahead. You need to be as efficient as possible if you want to have an impressive collection. Knowing how to work with coin dealers is an important part of this process, as it helps you to better understand those who are standing between you and your collection. Coin dealers have the coins that you need and know it. You need to know how to work with that t avoid getting ripped off and to work on expanding your collection.

When you are talking you time, effort, and money to invest in coin collecting you need to be sure to only do business with reputable people and businesses in the coin industry. One of the most important things you need to know is how to go about finding the best coin dealers. Below is some helpful information to assist you in protecting your invest in coins when looking for a dealer. Follow the tips below and you are sure to find the best dealer in the coin industry here on the United States.
Avoid Basement “Slabbers”
When you are considering doing business with any rare coins dealers you need to first find out if they are associated with one of the top three recognized coin grading services or “slabbers” as they are know in the coin world. The top three coin graders in the United States are PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Services, NGS, or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, and ICG, or Independent Coin Graders. All of these services use top currency experts called numismatic experts to grade coins. Other companies which are staffed with numismatic experts are referred to as basement slabbers. Basement slabbers generally overcharge to rate a coin and the rating they give are often inaccurate and nit recognized by coin collecting experts.
Online Dealers
One of the first places people tend to go to these days when it comes to collecting anything is the internet. While the internet can be a great source of information about collectible items such as coins it may not be the best place to find rare coin dealers. This is because many of those who sell coins online are not associated with the top three recognized U.S. coin graders. Most of the online dealers of coins use basement slabbers to determine the value of the coins they are selling. The result is that people often end up overpaying for a coin through an online dealer or they sell them a coin for far below the coins value.
Ask Questions
Before you go into any of the coin dealers you may be considering you will want to do some research about the type of rare coins you are going to look at. While you are there start by asking the dealer questions about the coins which you already know the answer to from your research. This can help you in determining if the dealer knows what they are talking about and whether or not they are trying to mislead you.
If a dealer tries to avoid your questions and seems to be trying to stop you from asking anything then they may not be a dealer you want t do business with. Remember that reputable coin dealers will encourage you to ask question about rare coins. A reputable will be happy to answer any questions their customers have because they are looking to create a long term business relationship with you instead of just trying to rush you into one quick sale.

February 5th, 2012 — Buying and Selling Coins, Coins, Finding Coins, Valuable Coins
Having a good coin collection means having a collection which is attractive to look at as well as a collection which is worth a lot of money. There are a few things you will need to know in order to be able to get the coins that you want at the price that you can afford. These methods are ones which have been proven time and again to be effective in being able to get the coins which fetch the highest prices at auction without having to pay the highest prices to get them.
The methods which you will use to get the valuable coins you want include going to antique stores. This is because most antique dealers do not know what they have in their hands when they have rare coins. You can also find good coins cheap at the flea market. One last place where you can practically steal coins from people is through the garage sales which go on in most towns throughout the year. You will have to spend some time to find these great coins, but when you do find them, you will be able to get the bargain of a lifetime.
Antique Shops
There are many antique shops which will carry the coins that you want to buy. They have the old coins just because they are old. This does not mean that they know what they have. They may even be in slabs and everything with grades attached to them. This will allow you to get the coins you want ready to go. You will not even have to spend the money to get them appraised because the work has been done for you.
Flea Market
The flea market can be hit and miss because you will often find nothing at the market at all. People think they have something and they do not. Every once in a while you will find valuable coins which will blow the market out of the water. You will simply have to sift through a lot of stuff in order to get to the coins which will be worth buying. If you run into a seller looking to sell something well above its value, you might want to show them the current market price for the coin so that you will be able to talk them down to a more reasonable price.
Garage Sales
The American dream is to keep getting more stuff but eventually you need to clear some space. This is when people have garage sales. Often you will find a garage sale which has valuable coins either because the seller does not know what they have or the person who collects the coins is unaware the coin is being sold. Either way you will be able to get a great score at a roadside store meant just to clear out some room in the garage or the attic. Try to pay a decent price.

When people first enter into the world of coin collecting, they have many questions which need to be answered regarding coin prices. This is understandable since coin pricing is one of the main issues which coin collecting itself is centered around. Whether one is buying, selling, or just sitting on some collectable coins, they can use accurate information in regards to how much their coins are worth. Below is some information which new collectors may find useful for their entrance into the world of coin collecting. Using the information below can truly help someone from making bad coin investments or even being cheated on the sell or trade of a coin.
PCGS
Here in the United States, coins are graded on a system that dates back to the 1940’s called the Sheldon Grading System. This is a system where professional coin graders examine a coin and rank it on a variety of different aspects. Some of the features of a coin which are graded on this scale include the look of a coin, the ware or use of the coin, and how rare the coin is. All of these features are combined to give the coin a special grade which is used to assess the price and value of the coin. One of the most well-respected and recognized coin graders which uses this system is the Professional Coin Grading Service, or PCGS. This service offers coin collectors an online coin pricing guide which is updated with accurate information on a daily basis. This information is valuable to any coin collector.
NGC
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, or NGC, is another third party coin grading service which uses the Sheldon Scale which is widely recognized as being a professional and accurate coin grading service here in the United States. This coin grading service also offers an online guide to coin pricing. This service even offers apps which individuals can download to devices such as an iPhone or electronic tablet which offer up to date coin pricing information. These convenient and easy to use applications can make it easy for one to determine the correct price and value of a coin when they are viewing one away from their home and their computer. These apps can keep people from making costly missteps when buying, selling, or trading coins away from home.
Online Tools
There are other online coin grading services which also offer quick and easy to use coin pricing information. There are some of these services which specialize only in coins which have an excellent grade or near excellent grade on the Sheldon Scale. Other online pricing tools focus solely on coins which are extremely rare and collectable. All of this means that you can narrow down your search for the coin you are looking to price by simply looking into the price guide which specializes in the type of coin which you are interested in. Having this information easily and readily available can help people when making decisions regarding their coin collections.

There are many great hobbies you can get started with. One of the hobbies which seems to be gaining a lot of popularity is the hobby of coin collecting. This is for a few different reasons. For instance, you are able to discover a lot about the history of the society which created the currency just by looking at their coins. This includes everything from the shape of the coin to the images which are on the coins and the lettering. The more you know about the coins, the more you will be able to enjoy collecting coin.
There are a few things you will need to know before you purchase or sell any coins. Getting to know these simple facts will help you to make sure that you are getting coins which will be the best for your collection as well as making sure that you are paying a fair price. You will need to know the different coins which have been produced. You will also need to know the budget you have to invest in collecting coin. You will also need to understand the grading system used by the industry for all coins.
Learning the different coins
There are many different coins which are produced by the different countries every year. While the coins might change over the years, most countries will use the same face values from year to year, Generally even the look of the coins will not change over the decades. Even something like the quarters which have been created recently for the US Mint still have the familiar obverse. Only the reverse has changed. When collecting coin, it is a good idea to know what the coins look like so that you will know what you are buying.
Figuring out your budget
The budget you set for yourself will have a huge impact on what kind of coin collecting you will be able to engage in. If you have a budget of less than $100, you can still get started with a few great coins. If you only have a few dollars here and there to spare for a hobby, you can buy the coins you will collect from the Mint and purchase more exotic coins after you have saved up or after your coins from the Mint have matured into more valuable coins.
Learning the grading system
When investing in coin collecting, it is very important to get to know the Sheldon grading system. This is important so that you will understand why you are paying what you are paying for the coins you purchase. The important thing to know is that the grading scale goes from 1 for the worst to 70 for the best. The numbers from 61 – 70 indicate coins which have been uncirculated and are untouched by human hands. They are literally the best coins you can purchase. The value of a coin can jump dramatically by going up even one level on the Sheldon grading scale.

With that being said, anyone who wants to become a great coin collector knows that there is always room to improve their approach to their coin collecting and their coin collection as a whole.
These insider tips are going to help you to strengthen your coin collection and will give you the knowledge you need to approach your collection with professionalism. Follow these tips to see a better collection and to have an easier time with coin collecting as a whole.
Know When to Make Your Move
If you are serious about coin collecting you need to know when to finally make a sale and purchase the coin that you are interested in. Do not purchase the coin as soon as you find it – there could be others in different collections and shops that are at lower prices. You should also avoid paying top dollar for a coin, as you may be able to get a lower price. You need to understand when you should pick up the coin at any cost (incredibly rare coins) or when to let the coin go (coins you will see at other shops, guaranteed).
Always Negotiate
The earlier mention of not paying top dollar for coins brings up the point of negotiation. You should always work to negotiate down the price of a coin. Most coin collectors are going to inflate the prices of their coin collection. They expect those who are serious about coin collecting to negotiate to work the price down, so they inflate the initial price to eventually get the price that they want for the coin. If you do not negotiate down the price, you will be paying too much for the coin.
Be Armed with Knowledge
Part of knowing when to let a coin go and knowing when to purchase a coin up comes from an overall knowledge of coin collecting. You need to understand the history behind coins, understand their rarity, and understand both expected value and going rate for them. Your knowledge will help you to understand if a coin is rare enough to pay a higher price for, or if it is priced too high to consider when taking into consideration the actual going rate of the coin. Without this knowledge, you are simply shooting in the dark as far as coin collecting is concerned.
There is a world of tips and tricks to coin collecting that will make it easier for you to improve your collection. These simple tips are the basic tips that you need to have under your belt to start to approach your collection professionally. When you know when to make a move, know how to negotiate, and know your coins, you will have a better collection and will be taken more seriously in the coin collecting world.

There are plenty of different coin dealers that are going to be within a reasonable distance from where you live. The trick is to be able to identify these different coin dealers. While some work out of actual offices and public buildings that operate as stores, others operate in the comfort of their homes. There are a couple of different tips and tricks that you are going to be able to put into place to find all of the coin dealers in your area.
Search Coin Shops Online
The first step to finding coin dealers in your area is to look for coin shops online. There may be some coin collectors who are somewhat hidden and not in plainly marked buildings, and others who operate out of antique stores. The information that you manage to collect on the more obvious coin dealers in your area are going to help you to find the more hidden coin dealers around you. Be sure to seek out everything from coin collecting shops to general collection shops – the more that you can find, the better.
Talk to Those Coin Dealers
The most important step that you will take as you work to find coin dealers in your area is to talk to the coin dealers that you have found through the Internet. Talk to them about the different coin dealers that they know, both in the area and outside of the area. They will be able to help you find the coin dealers who are not easily located through the Internet and will hook you up with individual coin dealers who simply work out of their homes. Coin dealers who run coin dealer shops have connections, connections that you should work to get in on. These are the individuals who are going to have the most interesting coins, and at some of the best prices possible.
Attend Coin Collector Shows
Coin collector shows and conventions that are close to your area are going to open you up to a wide variety of coin collectors who may not to a lot of deals. These collectors enjoy collecting on their own, but only work on deals and selling coins when they are at conventions and shows. This helps you open up to the individuals who like to collect coins as opposed to full out coin dealers who run coin collection like a business.
It is important for you to find and identify as many different coin dealers as possible. This is going to help you to be able to find various dealers who may be offering the same coins – you will be able to compare prices and work down dealers to even more favorable prices. You will also open yourself up to more options, possibly finding coins that you did not even know existed. You need to work to find coin dealers in your area. These different steps and tips are going to help you to find them all, becoming a master at finding coins in your area.

A coin collector show is filled with all of the different coins that you could want for your collection. Everything from gold coins to rare coins from foreign countries are found at these shows. It can be easy to be overwhelmed and somewhat lost in these shows if you do not know what you are looking for or how to find what you are looking for.
There are a couple of tips and tricks that are going to help you to get what you want at a coin collector show. They will help you to navigate all of the booths that you find and teach you how to work with coin collectors to pick up what you want.
Have a Game Plan
If you approach a coin collector show without a game plan, you will not be successful. You need to know exactly what you are looking for so you can narrow your focus to the few specific booths that have what you need. If you simply wander around a coin collector show, you may not understand what you want to buy and may be too overwhelmed to make a decision.
A plan consists of two different things: the coins that you are looking for and a budget for spending. Know the exact coins that you are looking for and know their exact value. Set a specific amount of money that you can spend and do not go over that limit. This will help you to make difficult choices at these booths, as there will be a wealth of coins that you want at each booth.
Negotiate
You should never settle for the initial asking price of a coin, as most prices are inflated to compensate for negotiations. If you know the value of the coin that you are interested in, negotiate under that price in hopes of working up to it. Most coin collector show participants are willing to negotiate, as they are looking to walk away from the show with a high sales number.
Strike up Conversations
Some of the best coin collector show transactions are had after getting to know the coin collector and their collection with the hobby. You may start a coin collector relationship that will benefit you in the long run if you start to strike up conversations with various collectors.
It can be easy to be overwhelmed and intimidated by the sheer amount of booths and coin collectors that are at a coin collector show. This is why it is important to approach the coin collector show with a solid plan. Know what you are looking to pick up at the coin collector show and know how to talk to the people behind the booths. Work to get to know these collectors and work to negotiate prices down as low as possible. If you manage to do these three things, you will find success at any coin collector show that you attend.
