3 Great Places You Would not Expect to Find Collectable Coins

There are different reasons why people get involved in coin collecting. For many they enjoy the history of the coins that they collect. For others, they simply enjoy looking at the beautiful nature of the coins themselves. Others still enjoy the hunt. They like being able to find the different coins they want to collect and being able to cross them off of their list. This will lead them to search in all of the places most collectors would not dream of looking. This has helped many people to turn up collectable coins others thought did not exist anymore.

Of the many places you can find great collectable coins, there are three which are used more times than not by those who enjoy the hunt. By looking in any of these places, you will have to be willing to dig through a lot of stuff in order to be able to find the raw coins you can salvage. The payoff is being able to find a raw coin you paid someone next to nothing or face value for which is worth hundred. The great places to find these coins include garage sales, estate auctions and antique stores.

Raw coins from garage sales

Anyone who is dedicated to finding great raw coins will scour the newspaper and the suburban streets to find garage sales. If you are looking to find collectable coins in this manner, you are on the lookout for a container or a box filled with different kinds of coins. You will normally be able to pay the person at the front a few dollars to get the whole container as they figure that the collection is just old coins and not worth anything. Perform a simple search when you get home to see if you found anything good.

Raw coins from estate auctions

Estate auctions will normally have large containers where the owners of the estate collected coins in a large container rather than as individual coins. Just like in the garage sales you will need to sift through the coins you got in the store. Often you will even be able to find coin collections which will be graded. The simple fact is that the auctioneers are only looking to get good returns on their investment. Even auctions which know they have highly valuable rare coins will sell them cheap just to get the money.

Raw coins from antique stores

Antique stores are another location most people dealing in collectable coins do not think to look. This is because the stores are not well known for having rare coins. You will be able to find the coins if you look hard. In most cases when you find them at the antique store you will find them already graded and in slabs. This is because people will turn them over after a husband died or a coin collector moved to a new part of their life.
