3 Facts about one the Rarest Coin Hoards of Morgan Silver Dollars

The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the rarest coin collectors have been seeking out recently. There are different grades and type of the 1800’s Morgan Dollar coins which can be found. Recently there were several of these coins released to the public for sale. These coins were from a hoard of the coins called the “Rattler Hoard”. Below is some interesting information regarding these rare and much sought after collectible coins.

Fact about the Morgan Dollar

Many people do not know that while the Morgan Silver Dollar is extremely popular today this rarest coin was not well received by the public when it was first minted. The Morgan Dollar coins were considered to be ugly by the public when they were first put out into circulation. They were also considered to be bulky and inconvenient to use. This is why few were made and why so many of them are in almost mint condition such as those which are part of the “Rattler Hoard”.

Only a few of any of the coins from the 1800’s in the “Rattler Hoard” have any issues with discoloration. This is part of the reason why the coins obtained from this particular hoard are so sought after by vendors. It is also a reason why you only to buy coins from these hoards from reputable dealers. There are less than reputable dealers which are now claiming that the coins they are selling are from this hoard when they are not.

The Rattler Hoard

The coins of the “Rattler Hoard” Morgan Dollars were placed in an underground vault in southern Utah from May of 1988 until 2010. The dry dessert where the vault was located is the reason as to why may of these coins were able to maintain their excellent condition. The “Rattler Hoard” Morgan Dollars have a shiny white look to them. This is part of what one of these coins the rarest coin some people have in their entire collection.

Where to Buy Morgan Rattlers

There is one place which has a large stock of this rarest coin. This is a shop in Nevada called Sahara Coins. The owners of this shop made a purchase of over a thousand of the coins which were part of the now famous “Rattler Hoard”. The shop was able to track down the submission receipts from one of the top grading services PCGS regarding the 1890 Morgan Rattlers they purchased from the hoard. Instead of resubmitting the coins for grading they have put some of the coins up for sale.

Be sure that not matter which dealer you choose to purchase this rarest coin or any coin from that they are reputable. You also want to make sure they are approved by one of the top three respected grading services. Those services are PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, IGS, or Independent Grading Service, and NGC, or Numismatic Grading Corporation.
